EARLY DETECTION OF CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE AND PERSONALISING PRIMARY PREVENTIVE THERAPIES WITH A NOVEL BIOMARKER.
Kardiomics is a spin-out company of the University of Sydney, which was founded by Professor Gemma Figtree at Royal North Shore Hospital. The University and Bioplatforms Australia are investors in Kardiomics.
The primary cause of coronary artery disease is coronary artery inflammation.
Prof Figtree identified redox modification of key coronary artery proteins, as a blood biomarker of cardiovascular inflammation, and patented this discovery in 2013.
Advances in aptamer technology have enabled Kardiomics to develop a new diagnostic called Redoxmer which is inexpensive, fits with standard commercial pathology lab operations and has been composition of matter patented.
The global market for this diagnostic is large and Redoxmer will become a standard blood test to diagnose early coronary artery inflammation and to regularly monitor patients being treated with various therapies.
